KB Shimmer Berry Christmas + bonus makeup/hair

Hello again, I have another Christmas-y polish for ya, again from KB Shimmer. I wore this one to the boyfriend's company Christmas party. Needless to say we were the best looking couple there ;)

This is Berry Christmas, featuring one of my favorite color combos: red and purple. There's a lot going on here and I love it! Obviously this polish can transcend Christmas time and be used any time of the year. The first two pictures are in direct sunlight, the third indirect sunlight, and the fourth in the shade.

Here are two pictures of my makeup from that night. Pretty simple eyes (with falsies! WHOA) to go with the red lip. I also had just redone my hair with the Wild Orchid from Pravana on top of what I had before which was a mixture of Violet and Wild Orchid, so now it looks more pink but still purple, if that makes sense. I didn't do the roots at all because I'm lazy, I just put the color on top and that's it. I received a TON of compliments on my hair and I was by no means the only person at the party with colorful hair. Which brings me a pet peeve of mine... when girls DO NOT fill in their brows AT ALL. I don't get it... why wouldn't you make it look like you have eyebrows?! You look like an alien without them... and I know they're there, I can see tiny little hairs where your eyebrows should be... make an effort!!!!!! Ugh.

I think those are all the Christmas polishes I wore, I'm really lazy when it comes to nail art or anything of the sort so I usually just slap on some glitter and that's the extent of what I can do most of the time.

Thanks for looking!

KB Shimmer All Decked Out

Hey again! So, you know the drill... I'm sorry for being away for so long again. The thing is, I get kinda depressed time and again, and honestly you're the only person I tell dear blog! The boyfriend doesn't even know how sad and useless I feel sometimes. Mehhhh.... so I guess I should be more faithful to you, dear blog, since you are always here to distract me. One reason I'm depressed and a good reason why I haven't been blogging is because I'm still jobless and I don't have monies so A) I feel useless and B) I don't have monies to buy pretty nail polish. I know, I know... #firstworldproblems. Anyways, here's a nice Christmas polish to cheer us up! From the always wonderful KB Shimmer, All Decked Out.

Ooooooh I love you Christmas tree on my nails. I wore this for our Ugly Christmas Sweater party. I layered it on top of China Glaze Holly-Day. I know it probably would have become opaque with enough coats but A) I want to save up as much polish as I can and B) I kind of don't like it when the glitter looks like it's drowning under all the multiple layers. Layering over something already opaque saves me the trouble.

Behold the ugliness! I really love this picture, we totally match and weren't even trying to, the boyfriend just happened to find this sweater at Goodwill this year, while I found mine at a different Goodwill last year. We're adorable, I know.

SO adorable, you need another picture! YEAH!

Ahh yes... so there you go. I know I say this every time, but I will try to blog more often. :)

Thanks for looking!

Maybelline Cool Couture and Pahlish Sitting In A Tin Can

Hello it's Friday!!! Doesn't mean much to me since I still has no job :( meh but at least that means it's the weekend for the boyfriend and I get to spend more time sleeping in and cuddling with him! Squeeee. But speaking of jobs, I just received a message on facebook from this lady asking me if I would be interested in a job concerning makeup application for photo shoots, mainly bridal. I'm a wee bit skeptical because a) it very well could be a scam and b) even if it's not, it looks like they're located in San Jose, and I don't really want to commute that far (I did that for school and it SUCKED). I probably won't go through with contacting her, even though their website and fb page look legit, as I said, I'm not too keen to commute to SJ. So why did I even bother typing this all out? Because I have to! I'm a Libra, I'm indecisive normally! But anyways!

I wore this a while ago! Actually, now that I think about it, this is the mani I had on when I went to my great-grandma's funeral... uhh. Yeah, she was cool. She was 105 when she passed. I was mostly upset at her passing because her birthday had just passed in June and I didn't get to go because of work, so in my mind that meant I didn't get to say good-bye. But normally I don't get super emotional at funerals, it always makes me uncomfortable to see so many people upset and crying, because I'd rather be happy in remembering all the good times. When I die, I want everyone to participate in a pub crawl. I want to be cremated and I want my ashes spread in McCovey Cove. ANYWAYS, I tend to do this, diverge immensely...

For the first layer, I applied a couple coats of Maybelline Cool Couture. I think this was some sort of special edition or I dunno. I flippin gorgeous, which is why there are a few pictures. A cool toned dark grey amped up with beautiful blue/teal shimmer. These pictures are with artificial light.

After that I applied Pahlish Sitting In A Tin Can. If that name is in reference to something, it's lost on me. All I see in the name is "TIN" and it automatically makes me think of "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof", one of my favorite movies of all time. Seriously, if you haven't seen it, I think it's on Netflix Instant, go watch it. Brilliant performances from the ENTIRE cast (except the kids, child actors back then really sucked.) So here's a couple coats of Sitting In A Tin Can. So in this beaut, we got holographic shimmer and hexes, black shimmer, small white hexes, large black squares and large white diamonds. LOVE. Again, artificial light for these pictures.

Macro bottle shot (dunno what happened to the bottle, came like that):

Good combo right?! Yeah I thought so. I'm not gonna blabber on since I did so much of it before, just gonna let you know that this polish is still available on Pahlish's etsy here. You can also get Pahlish on Llarowe, so the choice is yours!

Thanks for visiting!

Halloween Nails: NARS Purple Rain and KB Shimmer Jack

Hey guys! So here's what I had on my nails for my Maleficent costume. Not anything mind-blowing but I didn't have much time to do my nails so they just look pretty simple. But at least I was wearing a gorgeous color! I wore NARS Purple Rain.

Purple Rain is freaking gorgeous. I think I already said that. So it's a smooth and buttery deep grape purple that has those blackened edges so it looks like it's glowing. I shaped my nails to an oval because I think that's what Maleficent would do, if not just file them down to points which I was not about to do. Not sure how I feel about the oval shape on my nails. It would take some work to maintain since my nails don't grow that way anyways, especially my ring and pinky fingernails, they are definitely square shaped. ANYWAYS, all pics are in full sunlight.

The day after I slapped KB Shimmer Jack on top since it was going to be Game 4 of the World Series and I had to rep my colors. I guess it worked. HELL YEAH GIANTS!!! (Oh, also because Halloween was still coming up... and the celebratory parade for the Giants was also being held on Halloween! The BEST day!!)

Oooh sexy. I was hoping more of the purple would peek through like how you can tell on my pinky finger but it mostly just looked black. Shame too since this polish has both black and orange glitters in it. Kind of strange that you would make a black and orange glitter with a blackened base but whatevs, I still love it. Applied wonderfully with no need to fish for glitter or place the glitter strategically. Sorry for tip wear. First three pics in full sunlight, last two shade(ish).

Yay Halloween! Again, hope everyone had a good one! Now I can't wait for Thanksgiving, I LOVE mashed potatoes! I'm also gonna try to make a pumpkin cheesecake since I've been getting into baking recently. My boyfriend the cook and me the baker. Sounds good. Now I'm going to go play some BioShock 2.

Thanks guys!

Halloween Makeup: Maleficent x2

Hey guys! Sorry it's taken me so long to post this, I've been sick and addicted to playing BioShock 2 instead of posting. Lolzzzz but you forgive me right? You will, especially after the double feature I'm bringing you! For Halloween, my boyfriend and I (and our roommates) hosted a party at our house the Saturday before the actual holiday. This is where these first pictures come from. I can't really remember what products I used since I had to do my makeup super quick but if you really want to know, I'll find out for you and tell you.

Also let it be known that I can barely put fake lashes on myself. I don't want anyone else doing it because I had a really bad experience one time but at least I won't poke my own eye out. My lashes will just look a little wonky, that's all.

I hate that the camera does that! Wtf is with that black glare or whatever it is?!

Okay, so me and the boyfriend. I was incredibly proud of my costume since I made the horns and the staff. Obviously it's not a traditional Maleficent because I didn't want to have to worry about getting everything exactly right, nor did I want to pay a huge lump of money for something that would fall apart anyway. If you can guess my boyfriend's costume, 1 million points go out to you sir. For those left scratching their heads, go to Netflix right now and watch this movie called "Vampires Kiss". It stars Nick Cage in one of the craziest performances I've ever seen. My boyfriend = the cutest.

My bff and me! How freaking adorable is she?! She used the fur (faux of course) from an old jacket as the fur around her face. She's meant to be Little Red Riding Hood transforming into a wolf. Super cute!

Hahahahaha *derp*. I think I kinda look like Zooey Deschanel/Katy Perry for a second here... LOL

So that's the first look. Then on the actually holiday my friends and I were going to go to downtown San Mateo to bar hop in our costumes. That ended up not happening, and to spare you a long story, just know that when you tell someone you're going to be somewhere, be there on time and don't get sidetracked by sex! Anyways, I keep going back and forth as to whether I actually wanted to go out. It was getting later and my friends still hadn't shown up, plus it was raining and I didn't really want to wear heels all night. I still did my makeup but it came right off after my friends showed up at around 11. So here's the look.

Again my lashes look like crap cuz I did my makeup super fast.

Stupid black glare...

I gotta say, I liked this better. The whole reason I did green in the first look is because that seemed to be part of Maleficent's look. But I really wanted pink thrown in too, so I just did more pink and no green... my eyes are green anyway.

Well that's about all that happened! The party was fun and I really liked my costume, and I'm already thinking about next year. I either want to be Cruella De Vil or a Little Sister from BioShock. I'll probably do the latter because I freaking love that game.

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween! Oh, bonus to that Halloween party night! The Giants had won Game 3 of the World Series! And of course, they would go on to SWEEP the Tigers in the World Series in Game 4 the very next night! GOD I FUCKING LOVE BASEBALL!!!!!!

Thanks guys!!!!

Liebster Award

So I've won this award before I believe, although I'm still honored to have it, so thank you Jenna! Check out Jenna's cute blog over here:

I'm feeling a little down lately so I won't go much into this, basically I'll answer the questions then I have to go lie down or something... meh.

11 questions for the nominees;
1. Do you have any pets?

  • I have two cats, a boy named Lincecum and a girl named Posey, and yes they are named after Giants players. There have been pictures of them on here! Also since living with my boyfriend, I guess you could count our two roommates as pets... they leave enough mess... -_-
2. What is your favorite beauty product?

  • I don't really have a favorite but I guess the one that I will use no matter what is my Bare Minerals Eyelid Primer. I know most people love the Urban Decay one but I've never tried it, plus I worked for Bare Escentuals for 5 years and got a really good discount so why wouldn't I use their products?
3. Favorite food?

  • I absolutely love Japanese and Italian food. I'll eat pasta or sushi or pizza any day of the week. I also love potatoes in any kind of form
4. The one product you can't live without?

  • I guess this is the same as no. 2? Well I also wouldn't be able to live without mascara, and right now the one I love is Maybelline's Falsies or whatever it's called.
5. What do you like most about blogging?

  • Getting to show off! Lol that probably has something to do with it, I am a Libra after all and we are known to be a bit vain... but seriously I love seeing what other people are talking about and becoming inspired to do my own thing. It's also a great way to make friends, and again, being a Libra, I'm very social and love making new friends!
6. Favorite holiday?

  • HALLOWEEN!!!! Gah without a doubt, best holiday ever. I also feel like it's the only one that hasn't strayed too far from what it was originally all about, unlike Christmas or Thanksgiving. Getting to dress up in crazy costumes and apply awesome makeup?! LOVE.
7. Interesting fact about yourself?

  • I used to Irish dance. Yeah, if you're asking, it's basically like Riverdance. I still have the hard shoes and my soft shoes called "gillies" and I really want to go back to it!!! I miss it :( I also used to compete in what's called a "feis" and I won lots of medals and trophies! Lol
8. Favorite makeup brand?

  • Haha I would be lying if I didn't say Bare Minerals first. It's true I used to work there so maybe I still feel obligated to say so, but I really love everything they do, from makeup to skincare to brushes. I also love MAC of course, and Urban Decay and NARS and Bobbi Brown.
9. Best vacation spot?

  • I loved Cabo San Lucas when I was there and I definitely want to go back! I also love camping so wherever that may take me...
10. Who do you inspire to be?

  • Well I always try to be myself. People who I look up to are Dita Von Teese and RuPaul, among others, but those two were the first to pop into my head when I read the question.
11. Best TV show?

  • Ahhhh too many! Right now I just got into Once Upon A Time which is really cool even though I'm not a huge fan of whatshername... the chick who played Cameron on House. I also love to watch Hey, Arnold which is completely geeky but I love Helga Pataki so much! Some more: RuPaul's Drag Race, Warehouse 13, X-Files, Project Runway, Supernatural, Bones, Face Off, Ghost Hunters, Mythbusters... I also watch A LOT of let's plays on Youtube, which is basically someone playing a video game and recording it with their reactions and I love it! My favorite is Markiplier :) Check him out on Youtube.
I think that's it! I would nominate people but I don't think there's anyone new on my blog roll plus I have done this before but I love answering the questions! Like I said I've been feeling a bit down so I'm going to go lie down and hopefully feel better. Hope your Friday is going better than mine! Thanks Jenna again, and thanks guys!

NARS Scarlet Empress

Hello again, this is gonna be a short one. It's just two shots of me wearing NARS lipstick in Scarlet Empress. This was back when I was still working for so we got to play with lots of makeup in the office. I really enjoyed that job (and the pay lol) but not so much commuting on BART or waking up at 4:30 am to be at work at 6 am. Plus having to deal with bitchy people over the phone... not so easy. Anyway, I tried this color on and took pictures when I got home. It looks a little brighter and more red in the pictures because of the flash, but it's slightly darker IRL. I don't know what's on my eyes, something that I put on at work, probably a Too Faced palette of some sort. So yeah, I like this color! I'll have to buy it. The Sephora website describes this color as a semi-matte blue red which is incredibly accurate. The lipstick is not completely matte so it still makes your lips look moist, but obviously it's not overly shiny. Blue-red is dead on, there's no warmth in this color at all, no orange tones! Love it!

Obviously I also posted this because I still had orange hair in these pictures! Yay Giants!! GOOO beat the Cards! It's starting! Hopefully there's not another earthquake... if you're not aware, today marks the 23rd anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake. I was 3 at the time so I don't remember too much, although I do remember hiding under a table at my pre-school and being really scared. This day was also the day the Giants and A's were about to play Game 3 of the World Series aka Battle of the Bay. Lots of history in this day, lol. Anyone else out there from the Bay Area and old enough to remember this day in 1989?

Thanks guys!

Disney Villains Varnish Collection

Cheerio lads! Here we have the Disney Villains Collection swatches! I teased you with the box because I loved the drawings so much but since someone actually asked to see the swatches, I got my ass on it and swatched them all for your viewing pleasure! I also did a comparison so check it out:

Cruella De Vil is a beautiful sexy siren red creme. Shown here are two coats with a perfect formula. I'm not kidding, it was sooooo good. I know this color is boring to most nail polish lovers, but I love a good red creme. It's such a timeless color and adds instant sex appeal and confidence. First picture under artificial light, second with flash. Love this color.

Evil Queen really needs a name. Rebecca... after Rebecca de Winter from the Daphne du Maurier novel of the same name. Great novel, equally great movie directed by Hitchcock starring Laurence Olivier (swooon) and then unknown Joan Fontaine. I won't waste your time explaining the plot, just know Rebecca is a perfect name for this villain. Now that I've geeked out, here's the color. It's a beautiful black base with what looks like at first hot pink shimmer. But I felt like in different lights the color shifted from hot pink to red, which is why I included an extra picture to hopefully capture the color shift. Shown is two coats with the formula being slightly thick but not unmanageable. First picture under artificial light, second and third with flash.

Maleficent is a fantastic blackened teal/green/blue. It's mostly green than blue with blackened edges. My camera could not pick up the color correctly so I had to use my camera on my phone instead. Shown is 3 coats with a slightly runny formula but again, not hard to work with at all, I just did thinner coats. Also here is where I have the comparison.

Shown here is a comparison between L'Oreal's new shade called The Muse's Attitude (on pointer and ring finger) and Disney's Maleficent (on middle and pinky finger). They look identical in their bottles but on the nail, L'Oreal is more noticeably green while Disney looks more blue. Both in real life however are pretty green with L'Oreal edging the other out by a hair.

Here's the comparison shown with camera flash. Again you can see the L'Oreal is ever slightly more green while the Disney looks more blue. Obviously if you were not a nail polish fanatic you could live with one and be happy about it. I'll keep both however since they're beautiful colors.

Mother Gothel is a vampy brown blood red. It looks red on the first coat but as you apply more coats to get coverage, it starts to look more brown. I don't know how I feel about this color. I was loving it on the first coat because I love vampy blood reds. But the fact that it looks almost brown in some lighting and almost black in low lighting kinda turns me off. Either way, it's super shiny and easy to apply. I did 3 thin coats and you can still see a bit of my nail which doesn't really bother me because it's hardly noticeable unless you were nitpicking. I just didn't want to do another coat because I was afraid it would make the color much darker. First picture under artificial light, second with flash.

Queen of Hearts is a dirty, antique gold with a slight twinge of green. The first picture actually shows off a lot of that green when in reality, the color is not that green at all. I suppose I probably should have fixed that but I think the second picture shows the true color better, even though the color is slightly darker and more "dirty" if that makes sense. Also there are tiny specks of glitter which don't sink and gives the polish depth and shine. It's not difficult to remove like regular glitter. Shown here is 3 coats with a good formula. First picture under artificial light, second with flash.

Last and least, the abomination of this collection. Ugh. Ursula is an awful light purple/lavender streaky frost crapfest. It has the same smattering of glitter as Queen of Hearts but this glitter does sink as you can see on my pointer and pinky fingers and makes the polish look gritty. Not sure if top coat would remedy that problem, I kind of put the polish on, gagged and immediately removed it. Not that it would matter because the base color is still dreadful. Well actually the base color, the pretty soft lavender color is nice. What ruins it is the god awful frost. If Disney had made this color a dark purple like the color of her skirt in the drawing, it would have been better. This is just grotesque. The formula on this one was also the worst. Not really that terrible but still kinda goopy. Shown is 3 coats. First picture under artificial light, second with flash.

Well there you have it! I'm really thankful that my roommate got this for me for my birthday because I do love it. I'm super inspired by the drawings to take up my villains makeup from last year. Also if you didn't know Disney is doing these ridiculously amazing and glamorous Villains Designer Dolls. Omfg I can't even stand how glamorous and beautiful these renderings are. If I had money to burn I'd totally pick up Maleficent... she's like a sexy S&M vixen with that corset. I also love the Queen of Hearts. I want her dress. Actually I want all their dresses. Lol. Cruella's doll is definitely the height of glam and fashion. And guess what! This varnish collection is on sale right now! It's only 25% off, but it's better than nothing I guess.

Okay now I have to go watch the Giants play Game 3 of the NLCS!! Be back in a sec though. :)
